Hattas Studios collaborated with 3 interior designers at the Pasadena Showcase House of Design 2024, to create 3 original hand-painted murals based on their unique visions.

THE FOYER OF ENCHANTMENT

RACHEL SCHEFF, Rachel Scheff Design Studio, Interior Designer

As soon as you enter the Tudor mansion, you’ll engage with the gorgeous foyer, designed by Rachel Scheff. Scheff’s space is expansive and laden with heavy wooden walls. She requested a soft, painterly landscape to add movement and whimsy to the otherwise rigid room. We integrated the murals into a French wash faux finish, helping to unite the vast and fragmented space. 

THE LIBERY-STYLE DINING ROOM

B. DAVID LEVINE, B. David Levine, Interior Designer

Next you’ll enter the elaborate dining room, designed by B. David Levine. Levine requested a Baroque-style mural with figures and rich colors. Our team was inspired by Levine’s sumptuous vision, along with the home’s history. Look up to a heavenly scene of angels luxuriating in the clouds. But look closer! You’ll see hidden Easter eggs paying homage to the home’s famous history. Find an ancient compass representing the home’s  architect in 1902. Oranges and grapes nod to the home’s original views of vineyards and citrus groves. A “Silver Queen” honors the home’s former resident Mrs. Susanna Brantford Emery Holmes, widow to the owner of Silver King Mines. And see an oil lamp, representing former homeowner, Anne Newcomb, widow to a founder of Standard Oil.

In addition to the mural, Hattas Studios created custom-designed, hand-painted wallpapers around the perimeter of the ceiling. Levine wanted Liberty-style designs to enhance up the millwork, and finish off the grandiose ceiling.

THE ROYAL NURSERY

CYNTHIA SILVERMAN, Cynthia & Sons, Interior Designer

Upstairs, you’ll find our last mural on the tour. This extravagant nursery was designed by Cynthia Silverman. Silverman was inspired by a darling carousel fabric and the colors of French architecture. We worked closely with Silverman to create a mural that resembles dyed linen, with irregular line-work, mottled colors and a hand-crafted linen texture. The mural pulls together the colors, style and theme in the space, and creates a stunning focal point for this treasured room.
