It’s that magical time of year again! Time to wrap presents, hang lights and invent ridiculous puns to get your coworkers laughing!
There’s no question the artists at Hattas Studios are creative. But the innovation doesn’t stop at painting murals, sculpting foam, or building themed environments. Our team takes great pride in our low-hanging fruit humor, too. To some, puns may be groan-inducing and cringe-worthy. But at Hattas, they’re a work of art!
Years ago, our Art Director Ryan Kliebhan invented our “Virtual Pun Jar” on Slack (a texting app used amongst our team). Team members nominate each other for inventing great puns, prizes, and pride. This tradition has led to “Witzelsucht the Game,” a game reinvented every year by our team members and played at our annual holiday party.
“Witzelsucht” is a German word meaning “a mental condition marked by the making of poor jokes and puns, at which the speaker is intensely amused.” This isn’t just a condition at Hattas Studios … we consider it a pandemic!
How do we play? Before our holiday party, team members are tasked with inventing great puns mixing holiday terms with art-related terms. Being artists, they turn those puns into visual mockups and send them in secretly to be used for the game.
At the holiday party, the pun mockups are revealed and hilarity ensues! Prizes are awarded, and the winner gets their name added to our “Witzelsucht” trophy, which is a bookworm gnome sitting next to that infamous pun jar.
